Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

How does this work?

You tell us about the job, we follow up by phone or email to talk it through, and you get a free estimate with no obligation.

Is it free to ask for a stucco estimate?

Yes. Asking for an estimate costs nothing, and it does not commit you to any work on your walls.

Is stucco made from portland cement?

Yes. Stucco is the common term for portland cement plaster: a mixture of cementitious ingredients, aggregate and water, sometimes with other materials added to improve how it performs (cement.org). EIFS, often called synthetic stucco, is a different system built on insulation board.

How do I check a contractor’s license in Oregon?

Use the Oregon Construction Contractors Board’s public license search at search.ccb.state.or.us, or call the CCB at 503-378-4621. The CCB says contractors must put their license number on their advertising, including websites and business cards, and its license records are updated every six hours.

Do I need a permit to repair stucco in Portland?

Portland Permitting & Development lists “Replace or repair siding that is not required to be fire-resistant” among outside home repairs that do not need a permit, and the same page says “Even when a building permit is not needed, the project must meet the Building and Zoning Code requirements.” Ask PP&D how your stucco work fits that list before it starts, especially in one of the city’s historic or conservation districts, where certain changes need land use review.
